When the first Cadillac Escalade arrived for the 1999 model year, it made major waves for pairing Cadillac styling with the dimensions, comfort, and technology of a full-size SUV. Today’s new Cadillac Escalade keeps that commanding road presence but adds large gains in performance, cabin technology, and driver assistance. The team at MotorWorld Cadillac shares the evolution of the flagship Cadillac SUV.
A Major Leap in Technology and Safety
Early versions of the Cadillac Escalade were filled with leather, wood trim, and traditional luxury amenities. Modern models bring a more connected experience, such as a 55-inch Horizon Display® that stretches across the front cabin. Safety technology has also greatly improved. The new Cadillac Escalade includes Super Cruise® hands-free driver assistance on compatible roads. You’ll also find advanced features such as Forward Collision Alert and Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking.
From V8 Power to High-Performance Engines
The Cadillac Escalade has placed a premium on engine power. The original 1999 model offered a 5.7-liter V8 engine producing 255 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque. It was paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. By the 2007 model year, a 6.2-liter V8 raised power output to 403 horsepower. The 2015 generation raised that number higher still, to 420 horsepower, which came alongside an interior and infotainment redesign.
Today, the Cadillac Escalade continues the power evolution. It comes loaded with a 6.2-liter V8 engine good for 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Drivers seeking even more performance can upgrade to the Cadillac Escalade-V, which has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that cranks out 682 horsepower and 653 lb-ft of torque. Available Air Ride Adaptive Suspension® and Magnetic Ride Control® round out the performance innovations.
