The 2025 Cadillac CELESTIQ is re-establishing the automaker as the “Standard of the World,” not just through stunning design and all-electric performance, but also through its hand-built assembly process. A key element of the bespoke nature of this ultra-luxury vehicle is the extensive use of additive manufacturing, which is more commonly known as 3D printing. Here at MotorWorld Cadillac, we couldn’t be any more excited to share a glimpse behind the scenes of this cutting-edge construction.

From Prototype to Production

While the usage of 3D printing technology by General Motors is nothing new — the automaker has been doing it for decades — the 2025 Cadillac CELESTIQ is pushing this technology into the area of finished, customer-facing production components. This electric sedan stands out as it features over 130 3D-printed parts, which is the highest number found on any General Motors vehicle. This allows for unparalleled precision, design freedom, and customization on this special vehicle.

Key 3D-Printed Innovations

The flexibility of additive manufacturing processes allows for the creation of parts that are impossible to produce with traditional methods. Two standout examples in this electric sedan include:

  • Steering Wheel Center: This intricately designed piece is GM’s largest production 3D-printed metal part. It’s created with a laser powder bed fusion process, allowing for a delicate, detailed design and enabling LED backlighting to clearly shine through the metal.
  • Seat Belt Adjustable Guide Loop: This award-winning component is the first 3D-printed metal safety part from GM. The use of additive manufacturing allows designers to consolidate what would have been several smaller pieces into a single, continuous, strong, and elegantly finished component.
