If you’re looking to buy a used car and want to be sure you’re getting the best bang for your buck, one question worth asking is whether you’re better off with a slightly older model with fewer miles on the odometer, or a slightly newer model with more miles on the odometer.

It’s a great question for those thinking about investing in Cadillac pre-owned vehicles, and here at MotorWorld Cadillac, we’re happy to help answer that very question.

Why Mileage Matters

Most buyers, if given the choice between a Cadillac vehicle with 50,000 miles or one with 150,000 miles, are going to choose the former rather than the latter, and with good reason. Putting an extra 100,000 miles of wear and tear on a vehicle has effects on many different components inside a luxury car, as these components are only built to last so long before requiring replacement.

At the same time, highway miles and city miles don’t do the same kind of damage to a vehicle, so that’s something to keep in mind when looking at an odometer.

Why Age Matters

If given the choice between a 2018 model year vehicle at a 2014 model year vehicle, most people would prefer the newer vehicle. Not only does it have newer features and technologies and safety features, but the components under the hood are less likely to be rusted or corroded.

That said, a new model with lots of miles may create confusion about whether it’s still a good value.

So, Which Is Better?

Frankly, it depends. More important than age or mileage is how well the car has been taken care of. If it’s had its maintenance taken care of on schedule, hasn’t been in any accidents, and fits in your budget, it doesn’t really matter which type of pre-owned model you purchase.

The trick is to ask a lot of questions when looking into pre-owned Cadillac models, and before you know it, you’ll be filling out a Cadillac finance application to discuss how you can take home the perfect pre-owned luxury vehicle for you!
